Birthday party planning always starts with the same question: will you publicly acknowledge the birthday? If the answer is no, great -throw on the sweatpants and order Thai food takeout. Deciding on a location for the event is no easy feat, so give yourself a pat on the back for making it this far. Need help thinking through some of the other details? This guide can help you with what to expect when birthday dining in Vegas.

CAN WE BRING DECORATIONS?

If you’re in a private dining room, some light birthday decorations are usually okay. Just to be on the safe side, make sure you share that you would like to bring decorations in advance.Your reservations specialist can make sure the restaurant can accommodate outside decorations before you finalize your reservation. On the day of the event, be sure to arrive early, let them know you’re a birthday party with the goods and use the time as an opportunity to make friends with the host or hostess.

HOW LARGE OF A GROUP IS REQUIRED TO USE A PRIVATE ROOM?

Private dining rooms are awesome for birthday parties and groups. Most restaurants will have one or more Private Dining Rooms available to accommodate groups of different sizes.Like the restaurants themselves, Private Dining Rooms in Vegas come in all shapes, sizes, styles and price points. Your best bet is to start with a budget, number of guests and preferred vibe or food style –then work with one of our Private Dining Specialists to find the perfect spot for your group.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Fun restaurants like semi-formal Italian, sushi and high-end celebrity chef burger restaurants with private dining rooms are available for $30-$50 per person. These restaurants book quickly, so be sure to reserve far in advance to get the dates and restaurant you want in this price range. For $50-100 per person, you can find large-event spaces, medium range celebrity chef restaurants, or high-end restaurants mid-week for heavily passed appetizers. For steakhouses, high-end seafood restaurants or fine dining experiences, expect to pay over $100 per person. Don’t forget to plan for service charges and gratuities in addition to your food and beverages.

CAN WE ASK FOR A CUSTOMIZED CRAFT COCKTAIL FOR A BIRTHDAY HONOREE?

Absolutely! Customized drinks are a great way to make a celebration memorable. Many restaurants will even offer off-the-menu dishes, custom menus, or exclusive tastings to special groups. As always, it will depend on the restaurant. Look for a restaurant that has mixologists on staff for a better range of customizable cocktails.

WHAT ABOUT A BIRTHDAY CAKE?

It’s tough to travel with a cake in your carry-on, so Vegas has you covered for cake options. Some restaurants will allow a cake to be brought in and served, others may partner with local bakeries to source cakes for special occasions, and some may have pastry chefs on staff that can create a customized cake just for your event.

HOW EARLY SHOULD THE GROUP ARRIVE?

Always plan to arrive at the restaurant at least 10 minutes early. You can always grab a drink at the bar while you wait to be seated. If your restaurant is in a different location than the place you are staying, plan to leave in time for traffic, parking, and walking to the restaurant. Ubers aren’t always available and traffic can be tricky. If you’re planning to walk, make sure your group brings an extra pair of shoes or flats–especially if anyone is sporting stilettos.
